Radiopharmaceutical production: serving public health
Pharmaceutical Establishment
The Radiopharmaceutical Production Unit carries out the industrial production of sterile injectable radiopharmaceuticals in accordance with GMP quality standards.
We hold Pharmaceutical Establishment status and operate dedicated facilities including:
- ✓ A cyclotron protected by a shielded vault for the production of Fluorine-18 (radioactive isotope)
- ✓ A classified cleanroom for aseptic dispensing operations
- ✓ Lead-shielded hot cells for protection against ionising radiation
- ✓ Automated chemical synthesis modules for reliable and reproducible production
- ✓ A quality control and microbiology laboratory to verify drug purity before injection
The drugs produced are intended for hospitals equipped with a PET (Positron Emission Tomography) camera, such as the Centre Hospitalier Félix Guyon located in the north of Réunion Island. Centre Hospitalier Félix Guyon situé au nord de l'île de la Réunion.
The PET scan is a highly effective imaging examination, now essential in the management of many cancers at the initial stage, in cases of recurrence, or for evaluating treatment response. It can also be used for other indications in cardiology and neurology.
Thanks to the specific uptake of the radiotracer in the body, it enables accurate diagnosis and improved therapeutic management for patients.
