Hosted research teams

CYROI hosts several local, national and international research teams active in the fields of health, biotechnology, biodiversity and infectious diseases. By providing its infrastructure, state-of-the-art technology platforms and a collaborative environment, CYROI supports the local presence and scientific outreach of the units based on its site. Through this approach, CYROI actively contributes to the development of research projects of excellence in Réunion Island and in the Indian Ocean region, within a One Health framework.

Infectious Processes in Tropical Island Environments

The PIMIT team studies emerging infectious diseases and their vectors in the tropical island environment of the Indian Ocean.

Direction : Dr. Pablo Tortosa

Research areas:

Ecosystem dynamics Emerging infectious diseases Vectors Host-pathogen interactions

Animal – Health – Territories – Risks – Ecosystems

The ASTRE research unit focuses on the health dynamics of territories, at the interface between animal health, human health and the environment, within a One Health approach.

Directeur de recherche : Thierry Baldet

Research areas:

Environmental health Animal epidemiology and zoonoses Emerging health risks

Infectious Diseases and Vectors, Ecology, Genetics, Evolution and Control

At CYROI, the SIT team of the MIVEGEC research unit develops innovative methods to combat vector mosquitoes, in particular the Sterile Insect Technique, as an ecological alternative to insecticides.
